CASP was set up in 1989 after the first HIV/AIDS case reported in
Penang in 1988. HIV/AIDS touched the Malaysian waters in 1988 and
now after 20 years it has spread like wild fire throughout the whole
country.
Since its establishment CASP which is a broad-based non-government
volunteer organization has been helping through education and awareness
programs to prevent the further spread of HIV and to provide emotional support
to people living with AIDS. The following are some of our activities:
- Information and referral service.
- Outreach to sex workers on the Island and Mainland.
- Outreach to youth.
- AIDS education in the community (Schools, Work Place, Organizations, Estates etc).
- Training for community educators and counseling on AIDS for volunteers, teachers, health workers and other interested people.
- Emotional support for PLWHAs, their families and friends.
- Shelter Home to provide care and counseling to PLWHAs who are in need of a place to stay while recovering from opportunistic infections .
The work load is plenty but the volunteers are few. We urge and encourage as many volunteers as possible to join in to combat the disease.
Together let us fight AIDS and not people with AIDS.
